New to Pilates
I have never taken a Pilates class before. What can I expect during my first lesson?
If you have never taken a Pilates class before, you can expect to discover muscles you did not know you had by connecting your mind and body to move in new ways. During the first lesson, you will learn the essential principles of Pilates, and with the support of the instructor, discover how Pilates will help you reach your health and fitness goals.
How do I get started?
If you are new to Pilates, we highly encourage taking three Private Sessions before joining our classes. This will ensure familiarity with the equipment and a foundational understanding of Pilates basics.
What can I expect from Reformer Pilates?
A vast range of Pilates exercises are performed on the reformer, which uses springs to provide resistance and stability throughout the workout. Group reformer classes are built upon classic Pilates principals and provide a workout that, with time, will tone and firm the entire body. The springs on any Pilates apparatus, including the reformer, can be adjusted to provide different levels of resistance based on one’s needs and fitness level. Pilates should never cause stress to the body in the way that other workout methods may, which is why everyone can do it – it is completely customizable.
Will Pilates help me lose weight?
Pilates will help you lose inches, however good nutrition and a cardiovascular program are necessary to see the scale go down. We offer cardio based Jumpboard classes to help you achieve that goal.
What should I wear?
Pilates workouts involve a variety of movements so it is important to wear form-fitting clothing that will move with you. Refrain from wearing excessive jewelry, any clothing with zippers or buttons as they could cause discomfort and damage the equipment. Shoes and socks are not needed and we suggest you go barefoot or wear grip socks. Please do not wear strong perfumes, as some students may be sensitive and/or allergic.
